A fire in a shed attached to a house in Kea Court at Ellenbrook has caused the closure of access to all homes 200 metres around the fire scene this afternoon.

 

An acetylene cylinder, the type used for oxy welding, has overheated in the fire causing a potentially volatile situation.  Firefighters are monitoring the scene.

 

An exclusion zone has been set up 200m around the site. Access to all residential areas and streets that run off Fantail Court and Lookout Circle are closed. This includes Glade Terrace, Kia Court, Elata Close, Prion Way and Fairview Heights.

 

People should stay away from the area.

 

People with children heading home from school and people heading home from work will not be able to return home if they live inside the 200m buffer zone and should make alternate arrangements this afternoon.

 

A relocation point has been set up for local residents at the Woodlake Village Community Centre at the end of Woodlake Boulevard and Highpoint Boulevard.

 

The buffer zone will be closed until the cylinder is cooled and declared safe. It is not known how long this will take. Firefighters expect the area to be closed well into this evening.

 

The incident was reported at 11.47am today. 

 

Motorists are asked to avoid the area. 

 

If you are in the area take advice from emergency services personnel.

The acetylene cylinder, the type used for oxy welding, in Kea Court in Ellenbrook that caused homes 200 metres around the scene to be closed has now been made safe.

 

Fire and Rescue Service firefighters have left the scene safe.

 

People in all residential areas and streets that run off Fantail Court and Lookout Circle are now able to return home. This includes Glade Terrace, Kia Court, Elata Close, Prion Way and Fairview Heights.

 

A relocation point which was set up for local residents at the Woodlake Village Community Centre at the end of Woodlake Boulevard and Highpoint Boulevard has also been closed.

 

The shed fire where the cylinder was has caused an estimated $50,000 in damage.

 

FESA’s Fire Investigation will attend the scene in the morning to investigate the cause of the fire.

Alert Summary: A 100 tonne iron ore truck powered by liquid natural gas (LNG) and diesel fuel, consisting of a prime mover and three semi trailers, has caught fire on the Geraldton Mt Magnet Road, approximately 50 kilometres south of Yalgoo.

A 100 tonne iron ore truck powered by liquid natural gas (LNG) and diesel fuel, consisting of a prime mover and three semi trailers, which caught fire has now been contained.

 

The truck is on the Geraldton Mt Magnet Road, approximately 50 kilometres south of Yalgoo.

 

Last night twenty firefighters from the career and volunteer Fire and Rescue Service and Bush Fire Service at the scene extinguish the fire that was in the prime mover and semi trailers.

 

Crews are continuing to allow the residual LNG to burn off which will take a number of hours and will remain at the incident until this has been completed.

 

There is no direct threat to anyone in the vicinity and an exclusion zone is in place.

 

The Geraldton-Mt Magnet Road is closed to traffic because of the fire but an alternate route is in place for travellers via a gravel road.

 

Police are manning vehicle control points and will direct traffic accordingly.

 

People are asked to avoid the area if possible.
